Partnership with Parents

The staff at Salamander Child Care Centre are qualified and skilled in early childhood education and are committed to the care and education of your child. However, you and your family have the greatest influence over your child’s development and education. We see our role as being one in which we work in partnership with you to ensure your child reaches their full potential.

We welcome you to enhance our programs through your skills and knowledge.  We will also ask you for information about your child on a regular basis in order to add to our ever increasing knowledge of your child. As well as this, you will be given many opportunities to share your ideas, aspirations for your child and the richness of your family culture. Including these in our program creates a meaningful connection between learning and the child’s whole life experiences.

We invite and encourage you to spend time at the Centre with your child and to take part in as many activities as are practical with your other commitments. This may take many forms, such as reading newsletters and foyer displays, spending time in your child’s room, reading and commenting on the daily program, presenting an activity to the children, sharing an interesting aspect of your family or working life with the staff and children, helping out on an excursion, attending parent evenings or offering ideas for experiences you would like to see the staff include in the program. Alternatively, you might like to become an active member of the Fundraising or Management Committee or complete the ‘Job of the Week’.

Parent Management Committee

Salamander Child Care Centre is a “not for profit” community-based service. The Management Committee comprises of family members with a child enrolled in the service and The Director who work together to ensure that the Centre operates in accordance with the National Law and Regulations.

As a user of the Centre you are encouraged to attend these meetings so that you can contribute your ideas and knowledge and skills. Committee meetings are an opportunity for you to ask questions and to develop a deeper understanding of the service.

The Management Committee Meetings are held monthly. Notification of the date and time will be sent to families via email. The Director and staff report on the Centre’s day to day operations to ensure good communication is maintained. The executive positions on the Management Committee include President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Vice-Treasurer and Secretary. All positions are declared vacant at our Annual General Meeting each year.

Nominations by interested parties for the positions within the Management Committee should be made prior to the AGM.

As a user of the Centre you are encouraged to attend our meetings & join the committee

Fundraising Committee

Our Centre also has a keen Fundraising and Social Committee. Because the Centre operates on a not-for-profit basis there are limited funds available for equipment purchases or building improvements.

To provide for the additional requirements we have some fundraising activities throughout the year.

Parents have the choice to participate in the fundraising, as it is not compulsory, however all contributions are greatly appreciated. Meetings are held on a regular basis.

We welcome any time you can give.
