Philosophy
At Salamander Early Education we want our Philosophy to be more that just a section of text that we update annually because we have to. We want our Philosophy to be at the forefront of everything that we do. We want it to guide our practice and communicate to everyone, exactly what you can expect from us.
Below are the words we believe to be at the core of what we do.
Below are the words we believe to be at the core of what we do.
R.E.S.P.E.C.T
Salamander Child Care Centre would like to acknowledge the Worimi people who are the traditional
custodians of this land. Thank you for the sky. Thank you for our earth. Thank you for our friends. Today
we play, learn and grow on Worimi land. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
RELATIONSHIPS
Salamander Early Education creates an “environment of relationships”. Relationships are at the core of
everything we do. A strong foundation of support for all stakeholders will enable us to live a philosophy of
and leave a legacy of meaningful and lasting relationships.
ENVIRONMENT
Salamander Early Education is a place for joy. A place where children are free to be themselves and
express themselves in any way that is meaningful to them. A place where all children are able to, and
actively encouraged to flourish.
SAFETY
At Salamander Early Education, we provide a safe space for our children and their families. We also work
outside of the Centre, with a focus on creating a child safe community. Child safety is everyone’s
responsibility and something that we take very seriously. Child safe practice is embedded within our
curriculum and consent is exercised throughout all our spaces.
We also value the cultural and emotional safety of our past, current, and future families and educators. We
aim to be a Centre that is inclusive of all and a place where everyone feels a true sense of belonging.
PLAY
All they do is play all day! Which means all they do is actively participate in research, innovation,
conversation, critical reflection, problem solving, conflict resolution, literacy, numeracy, and science. What
is more, they do all this while having fun. They do all this with the support and guidance of their Educators
who expertly create experiences and design environments to challenge and develop their current
capacities.
EDUCATION
“All children are intelligent, if we are intelligent.” (Carla Rinaldi) Children need adults who are intelligent in
their approach and their response to the child’s complex and ever-changing needs.
Salamander Early Education is a community of learners. As adults we are assigned the task of continual
professional development so that we can ensure our practice is inline with the most up to date research
and sector thinking.
All Educators are provided with access to regular and ongoing professional development opportunities. All
families are supported so that they have knowledge of and access to appropriate Community resources.
COMMUNITY
We are extremely proud to be a community-based Centre. We are active members of the Port Stephens
Community, and we take on the role of supporting the development of future community champions.
We support children to see the value in themselves, the value in their differences, the value in what they
can do and the value in doing things differently.
TRUST
We do not expect children to conform, we expect all children to be treated with respect and to be seen for
the unique and capable individuals that they are. We understand that there is a huge difference between
compliance and respect. Throughout the Centre, we promote a positive image of the child where their
contributions and input are genuinely heard and valued. We trust our children.
Respect yourself, respect each other, respect our profession.

As a team we have introduced a series of research questions that we explore over a set period of time. These questions challenge our thinking and our practice. They require us to think deeply about our role as educators, our image of children, the language we use and how our own experiences and beliefs can impact the way we educate.
As Educators we are researchers and change agents shaping future generations. We do not leave things to chance and we do not just do things because we have always done it that way.
Everything we do is based on our understanding of the latest sector thinking and relevant research into Early Childhood Education and Care.

More Than Words
A Philosophy should be lived every single day. A Philosophy should guide decision making and inform conversations with educators and families.
